The Mets signed 12 draft picks that they drafted this season, and one of them was the 13th pick overall, Brandon Nimmo, who took until 11:59 last night.
Before the deal went down with Nimmo, on August 14th, Mike Puma of the New York Post interviewed Ron Nimmo about weather the two sides were close to a contract number.
"(The Mets) have some work to do." Ron Nimmo said.
They were finally able to work out a deal for $2.1M, when the recommended was $1.65M.
There were reports when Nimmo was drafted that he wanted 3Mill signing bonus.
Last season, the Mets' first round pick Matt Harvey was given $2.5M.
Anyway, Nimmo, the 6-3, 190-pound left handed hitter native out of Cheyenne, WY, wont give the Mets production right now as he is only 18 yards old.
The MLB Network compared Andy Van Slyke to Brandon Nimmo, and if Brandon can put up the numbers that Slyke put up, many Mets fans would be happy. Slyke was a 3 time all-star, 5 time gold glove award winner, and had a career batting average of .274. If Nimmo can do that in the outfield, that would be impressive.
He hits for average and has decent power. The only problem with this is that Nimmo hasn’t seen quality pitching, and won’t until he starts playing professional ball with the Mets.
Nimmo has got hit with injuries during his high school days, and also had ACL surgery in 2009. Knowing that Nimmo has had injuries already doesn't make me excited, thanks to Mets trainer Ray Ramirez.
Brandon Nimmo also made a college commitment to Arkansas, but by signing with the Mets, Arkansas will lose out on Nimmo and Brandon will likely play with the Cyclones.
The Mets either got a huge bargain on Nimmo, or just wasted a pick that they needed a pitcher in the first place anyway.
