The Amazin's are coming off 3 very bad losses in the 9th inning or later after poor fielding. The Mets are now back to .500, after being 4 games above .500 for the first time this season. But putting all that aside, the wild card leaders, Atlanta Braves are entering Queens to play a 3 game series in Citi Field, the home of the Mets. The Mets are currently 8 games out of the wild card.
On August 3rd, the Mets were rained out, when the Braves won, leaving them more ground to pick up. It might seem like the season is over, but with 2 days off, the Mets could work themselves back into contention with a 3 game sweep.
Don't count it out yet.
Tim Hudson, Tommy Hanson, and Jair Jurrjens will be pitching for the Braves in the three game series starting Friday night.
Tim Hudson? His 2 outings this season have been worse then awful pitching just 4 innings in both games as the Mets won both.
Hudson will be facing Dickey in his outing.
Tommy Hanson? He only lasted 5 innings in his loss against the Mets back in April.
Hanson will be dueling against Jon Niese.
Jair Jurrjens? This guy made all Mets fans laugh out loud with his last 2 outings versus the Mets. Though he did get the win in April, after that against the Mets, he has looked lost. Receiving 2 losses allowing 4 runs in both those games.
Rookie of the Year candidate, Dillion Gee will pitch the Sunday game.
The last time the Braves and Mets met, the 3 game series was in Atlanta's home, Turner Field. The Metropolitans took 2 games out of 3, and looked very good.
After watching the late innings collapse because of bad fundamentals, those 2 off days were huge, especially right before the largest series for the Mets of the year.
Obviously when you don't execute your "fundies", the fun dies. That has been proved by the Mets, but can they pick themselves back up?
Mets fans, as much as it seems the Mets' season might be over, just think about how bad the Mets could use a 3 game sweep against the Braves. This series could be a season saver or a season breaker.
Are the Mets "amazin" or a "fluke". Ya Gotta Believe....I guess.
